Sex Toy Guide: Traditional Vibrators

Traditional vibrators have been around for many years and they are still popular to this day because they offer a simple, uncomplicated and effective alternative to some of the more elaborate vibrators on the market. They don't have clitoral stimulators, rotating pearls or complicated G-Spot shaped tips. What they do have is a straightforward design concept and powerful motors that allow women to stimulate both internal and external areas. A traditional vibrator can be used many different ways. For example, they can be used for insertion as well as clitoral stimulation, and if you get the angle just right you can also use a traditional vibrator on the G-Spot. Women who are new to sex toys are usually drawn to vibrators that are basic. They tend to be uninterested in all the bells and whistles offered by other types of vibrators. Instead, they opt for basic, down to earth usability and a no frills attitude. Maybe the more involved vibrators will appeal to them more after they gain some experience over time. Or perhaps they'll be satisfied with a traditional vibrator and never feel the need to switch.

Traditional Vibrator Basics

Vibrators like the Temptress Tiger, the Platinum Vibe and the Hunk are good examples of basic traditional slimline vibrators. Each of them has a smooth and straight shaft, a slightly pointed tip and enough power to meet most women's sexual needs. On each of these vibrators the vibration intensity is variable and is controlled by turning an adjustment dial located on the base of the shaft. These vibrators are all simple, attractive and powerful, which are all hallmarks of a good traditional vibrator.

Almost by definition a traditional vibrator is simple and basic. The word "traditional" conjures images of conservatism, low on frills and implies the style is rooted in early vibrator history. This is true to some extent, but it doesn't mean that you can't find traditional vibrators with options that add functionality and increase the ways in which it can be used. For example, the Hawaiian Vibe is a traditional vibrator that is also waterproof. You can use it as you would any other traditional vibrator, but you can also use it in the water. The Starlight is also waterproof and traditionally styled, but it also happens to be made of silicone, which is a relatively recent sex toy material and definitely not traditional. If you're looking for variable vibration patterns the Amber Pulse or the Violet Fantasy may be good choices. Each of these vibrators is controlled by a mini computer system that allows the user to choose from certain preset vibration patterns. They looks like ordinary slimline vibrators but they have several levels of vibration, pulsation and escalation that are activated by the push of a button. Another example of a traditional style vibrator that goes beyond traditional functionality is the Supercharge Vibe, which looks fairly standard but is both waterproof and fully rechargeable. There's no need for batteries with the Supercharge Vibe, ever.

You may have concluded by now that even though traditional vibrators have roots in simple, modest design they aren't necessarily limited in their functionality. Sex toy designers have kept the "look and feel" of vibrators in the traditional category while adding more and more features that increase their ability to provide pleasure. It appears that modern technology, an increase in the demand for adult toys, and the desire on behalf of the consumer for more features and functionality have pushed traditional vibrators into the 21st century. Where it goes from here we can only guess.
