Rabbit Vibrators Explained

A Visitor Asks...

"I've heard the term "rabbit vibrator" but I don't know exactly what that means. What makes a rabbit vibrator different from other vibrators and can you explain why they're so popular? What makes them stand out from other vibes?"

Rabbit vibrators gained notoriety after appearing on a Sex and the City episode appropriately titled "The Turtle and the Hare", where the Vibratex Rabbit Pearl transformed Charlotte into an orgasm-craving recluse. She simply couldn't get enough of her newly discovered sex toy and she fell in love with the good vibes it produced. Viewers took notice, and while rabbit-style toys have been around a while, that episode is credited for bringing rabbit vibrators out of the shadows and into the mainstream public consciousness. They have remained one of the most popular types of adult toys ever since.

A Brief History

Vibrators and dildos were purely functional devices back in the dark ages of adult toys. They rattled, buzzed and provided erotic stimulation, but they did so without much fanfare. No style, no fun, and no pizzazz. Very little thought was put into aesthetics, and the results were straight forward, simple and frankly boring adult toys. Many years later adult toys became more and more popular and widely accepted in the main stream. New designs, colors and materials began to emerge, and Japanese designers started toying with the idea of providing more than just vaginal or clitoral stimulation. There are vibrators designed to stimulate the clitoris and vibrators designed to stimulate the vagina. Until recently, however, there were none that did both. It happened to be (and still is) illegal in Japan to model sex toys after human genitalia, so the resulting combination vibrators took the form of animals. You will find many toys today that resemble bears, dolphins, bees, butterflies...and of course rabbits.

How they Work

Rabbit vibrators fall within a larger category of "combination" or "dual-action" vibrators. There are many different varieties on the market, but each offers the same basic type of dual-stimulation. Two things accomplish this dual-stimulation; a clitoral stimulator located on the shaft and a section of rotating beads, balls or pearls in the middle. The clitoral stimulator is the part that's formed to resemble an animal (a rabbit in the case of a rabbit vibrator), and it's designed to provide direct clitoral stimulation. Rotating beads are the second feature and are usually located at mid-shaft. These beads rotate or pulse, which stimulates the interior walls of the vagina and the labia. Some rabbit vibrators also have a twisting shaft, but that's considered an option and not a requirement.

It may sound like sensory overload to some, so it's worth noting that each feature operates independently and can be controlled separately. For example, those who enjoy the pearls but don't want a lot of clitoral stimulation can turn the clitoral stimulator intensity level down (or even off) while independently adjusting the speed of the pearls. Many women love the powerful sensations of a rabbit vibrator operating on all cylinders...full steam ahead...damn the torpedoes, but there are also many who find that much stimulation overwhelming and prefer to use the features separately. Most rabbit vibrators can accommodate either preference with separately controlled features.

Is it right for me?

Many women, likely in the millions, have enjoyed the stimulation provided by rabbit vibrators. However, some women might not be turned on by the combination of features as much as others. If you're considering buying one but aren't sure if it would be right for you, you might want to start by looking within and answering a few basic questions. Ask yourself what kind of stimulation you like from your vibrator, in general. If you don't have any firsthand vibrator experience you can find answers from your real-life sexual experiences. Do you enjoy clitoral stimulation, or is your clitoris too sensitive for direct stimulation? Do you enjoy deep vaginal penetration, such as with a finger or penis? Also keep in mind how rabbit vibrators work. Imagine the sensations of the shaft rotating and vibrating during penetration. Imagine having a soft jelly bunny vibrating your clitoris. Does this interest you? Keep in mind that you can turn any and all of the features off and on independently. For example, if the idea of a twisting shaft turns you on but you aren't terribly thrilled about the prospect of direct clitoral stimulation, you can turn the clitoral vibrations off and just enjoy the motions of the shaft.

Show me the rabbit!

Fortunately, along with their popularity comes a large selection of rabbit vibrators from which to choose. Most offer similar functionality, so the real difference between one product and another is usually the level of quality. Some examples include the ever popular Rabbit Pearl, which is made by Vibratex and is beautifully handcrafted. It is a high quality vibrator that has all the bells and whistles, and will outlast many other similar products. Another tried-and-true favorite is the Jack Rabbit Vibrator, which has a reputation for bringing women to orgasm reliably and without effort. It has rotating pearls and a twisting shaft well as a bunny that stimulates the clitoris. Other products like the Waterproof Jack Rabbit, Impulse Jack Rabbit and Rechargeable Jack Rabbit offer features not found in the more basic models. All of these rabbit vibrators provide a comparable experience, and which one you choose should be based on features, price and most importantly, overall appeal. There are other rabbit vibrators available, and we don't want you to take our mentioning a few above as somehow a negative comment on models not mentioned. There are many quality products available in this category, and if you find one that appeals to you more than the ones we mentioned, go for it!
