Using Baby Oil with Latex CondomsA Visitor Asks... |
| ||
A Bad CombinationLatex, the material most condoms are made of, will quickly degrade if it comes in contact with petroleum-based lubrication such as baby oil, mineral oil or Vaseline. So assuming you're using a latex condom the answer is no, it's unsafe to use baby oil. Latex condoms are only safe when used without lubrication or with water-based lubricants like Astroglide and K-Y personal lubricant, or with silicone-based lubricants. The water and silicone-based lubricants tend to work better than oil or petroleum anyway - Vaseline is not exactly slippery and mineral and baby oils will leave an oily film inside the vagina, making it susceptible to infection. If you're ever in doubt a good rule of thumb with regards to condoms is NO OIL. It's always a good idea to check the manufacturers label if you have any questions about which lubrication to use with a specific brand or type of condom. If you bought your condoms in a box, the instructions are either printed on a paper insert inside the box, or on the box itself. As always, we hope this information has helped you.
